French Basketeer – Andrea Drexelius is a true Francophile…(her tagline is…”If it isn’t French, we don’t stock it”)…and judging from her collection of what she brings to the farmers market, her philosophy on sourcing her meals every day from local farmers’ markets!, hearing the stories of her travels to every corner of France, and of course her impeccable French ( sounds as if she’s a native!)…one would guess that she is French, or certainly an expert on all things French! Her varied collection of bags, rolling carts and linens with a sprinkling of vintage items (coins, religious medallions, wire egg baskets, etc…) she picks up on her travels…makes it always fun to shop with Andrea. She stocks the classic Aix tote (classic French tote with dark brown leather handles and trim, cotton lining, perfect market basket), the Marseille tote (with traditional African motif and simulated black leather handles), colorful cotton-lined fair trade baskets from Madagascar and Morrocco (the latter made with lambskin handles) all of which are either completely or almost completely made by hand, in an almost completely female industry… as well as one of a kind pieces she picks up overseas. Andrea also owns Metis (transl: blend of cotton and linen) Linens, a new company she launched this year carrying a full line of exquisite vintage French linens.
